underworld
Conspiracy of the Schaton
Former allies of Scurlock and self-appointed imperial babysitters. Currently includes Casta and Viktoria Karhowl.
Render's Troops
Ancient imperial forces returning to Duskvol after nearly a millenium. Includes the Crows and Black Knights.
Scurlock
See Scurlock
A dangerous vampire with powerful connections. Ancient and immutable. Merged with an instance of Blighter, merged again into the Spider, and ultimately beaten to death by Render.
The Billhooks
See The Billhooks
A powerful but fractured gang based in The Docks who does business out of their butcher shops. The Billhooks’ leader, Tarvul, is consolidating his power among the fractured Billhooks after the Nameless helped him escape from prison.
The Circle of Flame
Secret society of academicians that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. Regularly publish responses to responses in fringe journals.
The Crows
The (non-supernatural) Crows have been demolished as a gang. The Red Sashes were already consolidating their hold on Crow's Foot when a newly-investigative Bluecoat task force got their gang leader for murder. The group has disbanded, and many of its former members can be found in the Billhooks fight pits or gang ranks now.
The Dimmer Sisters
Ancient gang of witches with a subterranean temple hideout and a large body chock-full of ghosts.
The Fog Hounds
A rough band of Skovlan smugglers.
The Gray Cloaks
a regiment of disgraced former Bluecoats who were fired for investigating Lord Strangford too closely. Former rivals of the Nameless, now forced into true retirement after a deadly war left them powerless.
The Hive
Merchants and purveyors of many fine goods, both legitimate and illicit. Currently restoring apartments on Palisade Avenue.
The Lampblacks
Disbanded gang, formal rivals to the Red Sashes
The Red Sashes
Purveyors of high-quality drugs and masters of Iruvian swordsmanship.
The Wraiths
Enigmatic, possibly-supernatural gang. Might be related to the Spirit Wardens.
institutions
Bluecoats
Purveyors of "law" and "order" in Duskvol. Truthfully many of its members are in the pockets of different factions across the city. Nonetheless the most "legitimate" producers of violence in the city, with a presence in every neighborhood.
Imperial Military
The armed forces of the Imperium.
Inspectors
Detectives, investigators, and prosecutors of criminal activity. Have at least some sense of ethics and integrity (fuckin' nerds).
Ironhook Prison
A labor camp served by convicts and a ghetto for the destitute poor.
Leviathan Hunters
Brave and ruthless sailors that sail the Void Sea hunting Leviathans to extract their blood for use as electroplasm.
Render's Provisional Government
A governmental institution charged with logistics of transportation & resource distribution throughout the Empire.
Seventh Tower Consortium
Sparkwrights
Engineers that specialize in sparkcraft and maintain the lightning wall. Some might call their research shocking.
Spirit Wardens
A mysterious organization of elite ghost hunters. Membership is secret; all Spirit Wardens wear bronze masks to hide their identities.
citizenry
Barrowcleft
Residences and markets for the farmers who work the fields and eeleries.
Brightstone
The grand mansions and luxury shops of the wealthy elite.
Charhollow
A crowded district of tenements and stacked houses.
Charterhall
The city's civic offices and the hub for shops, artisans, and commerce.
Coalridge
The remnants of Doskvol's original hilltop mining settlement, now home to laborers and industrial factories.
Crow's Foot
A cramped neighborhood of multi-level streets, ruled by gangs.
Dunslough
A labor camp served by convicts and a ghetto for the destitute poor.
Nightmarket
The trade center for exotic goods imported by rail. Many vendors also trade in illicit goods.
Silkshore
The "red lamp district" and artist community.
Six Towers
See Six Towers
This formerly prestigious district has faded over the centuries into a pale shadow of what it once was. The eponymous six towers were originally the grand residences of Doskvol’s first noble families. All but two (Bowmore House and Rowan House) have been sold of and converted into cheap apartments or fallen into ruin and abandoned. The district has an empty, haunted feel, with many sprawling old buildings dark without power, broad stone streets cracked and buckled, and the fires of squatters crackling from overgrown lots.
The Docks
Rough taverns, tattoo parlors, fighting pits, and warehouses.
Whitecrown
The sprawling estates of the Lord Governor, Hunter Commander, Master Warden, and Doskvol Academy.
labor-and-trade
Gondoliers
A guild of gondola operators that provide canal-based transportation.
fringe
Cult of Vazara
A cult of nobles and academics dedicated to the worship of an ancient sky goddess.
The Church of Ecstasy
The dominant religious institution of the Empire.
